Hot Air Balloon Index is a small, independent price index for hot-air balloon flights. It is run by a two-person editorial team working in Bogotá, and it is not owned by, funded by or affiliated with any balloon operator or booking marketplace.
There is already a careful English comparison of balloon operators across dozens of places, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. This site is being built where that work is thin: Spanish-language pages for Teotihuacán, Segovia and the rest of the Spanish-speaking market, written first rather than translated last, and a figure nobody publishes — how often a flight at a given site in a given month actually leaves the ground.
Nothing on the site is measured yet. It is published as a plan: each page states the fields its table will carry, where each field will be read from, and how often it will be re-checked. Every page carries a robots noindex instruction and every sitemap is empty until that page’s rows exist. We would rather publish an honest empty shell than a page padded with zeroes.
We write in Spanish, English and French. The numbers behind every language are the same rows from the same checks, read on the same day.
